I never did see that E320 wagon, unfortunately. The 328 seems like a real possibility if he would want to trade for the 4Runner, but I looooooove the way the 300CE looks. If I got either of them, I’d definitely want to make it less stanced though.

I know this is out of budget and a terrible idea on the whole, but HNNGGGGHHH!
Anyway, oppopinions?

Repairing the Audi’s front end will bankrupt you. The Mercedes is probably not repairable given the modifications. The Lexus is overpriced in my opinion (did I miss the mileage, or it wasn’t provided?) but it’s probably your best bet. Guy called in to Car Talk once with a question about his LS400 - 350K and he’d done nothing but bulbs, belts, and oil. And maybe the coolant, but he had original plugs and wires. If that’s not a recommendation, well ....

The 328i is an odd little beast - no dice. The Lexus looks nice. That 300CE is gorgeous. The S6 is probably in need of a timing chain redo soon.

I love LS400s so much, but I have to deduct points for a lack of mileage and using “good” as an adverb.

While the Mercedes is certainly cool, no way I touch that one. And I've never been really sold on the E46. I think the Lexus is the smart and safe bet.

That 300 looks ready to appear as the bad guy’s car in an episode of Miami Vice.

That S6 a belt, the V8s didn’t get the chains at the back until they stuffed them in the B6 S4.

orly? Hrm not sure if that makes it better or worse. Belts should never be used for timing.

If you want reliability and if it’s a DD then Lexus, doesn’t matter milage looks like it was taken care of.
If you want some fun with out going bankrupt get the 328i. Just prepare for oil leaks

How much for the lead pic C124 with the SEC nose?
The other CE and the BMW are modified enough to scare me. 14 year old S model Audi with 120K on it and “Needs TLC” for only nearly 9 grand, bodes well. Lexus pics are either when wet or at night, I am sure for legit reasons. I think all of these cars are good choices. Lexus will be the least painful.

All good cars when they’re not messed with.
I like 300CEs, but with the miles there are some potentially large bills in its future, and that single cam M103 is slooooooow. That “AC needs charge” could be really expensive too if it hasn’t already been R134A converted, because R12 is almost impossible to find now.
The S6 should have received its timing belt and water pump at 100k, if not that’s over $1500. If it needs a front suspension rebuild, which they do about every 50k, that’s over $1000 too. Cool cars though.
The 328 is too messed with, walk away.
The Lexus is a Lexus, it’s like the sun coming up, and is a ridiculous amount of car for the money. Of those specific choices, I’d take the Lexus.

I generally agree with that sentiment, but ze Germans seem to have forgotten that timing chains are supposed to last. We just did the belt and associated maintenance on a pristine blue S6 Avant, it came to about $1,700 but they last fine. Much better than taking the damn engine out and doing chain guides at the same interval. As I understand it, they went to chains both because the V8 wouldn’t fit in the B body with the belt drive on the front, and because with Audi’s tradition of hanging the engine way out over the front axle the engine’s length would have made the handling balance even worse than it is.

I could be wrong but the chains last, its the guide rails that poop the party

Most do, but you generally don’t reuse old chains with new guides if you have a 100k-mile plus engine apart. As a system, they don’t make them last like they used to be expected to.

I would drop 500 bucks off it’s current listing for it to go to someone on OPPO.
That’s definitely do-able.

Yeah. I would keep the 4Runner and get something else but not fiscally possible.

Well keep it in mind in case it DOES become fiscally possible.
I’m not trying to push my car like crazy on here, I would just love to keep it in the “OPPO family”.
I think any one of us would feel the same about any of our cars, unless we got a crap one.
